Toowoomba’s Carnival of Flowers is back with more than just botanicals

Toowoomba’s Carnival of Flowers is back with more than just botanicals

Don’t ask the head gardener of Toowoomba’s Botanic Gardens what his favourite flower is.

“At this time of year, they’re all magnificent and they all do the job that we require,” Matt Schick said.

Schick has spent the last 25 years punishing his knees to keep the city’s public parks in top shape.

For the last 12 months, all attention has been on Queens Park to ensure its heritage-listed Botanic Gardens makes an impressive contribution to the 74th Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers.

“It’s a different creative concept every year,” Schick said. “We plant the earliest ones in late April, right through May and June.

“We run the gauntlet a bit with the timing.”
